Lamb #2 of the season...

This little guy was born one week ago, I've finally taken my camera out to get some pics. of him.  He is out of, Sire: Mercury W00735 and Dam: Lialac S26912.  He appears to have some spots.  Can't wait til the rest of the girls deliver.  I've got one more ewe that I bred with Mercury.

Start of 2011 Lambing....

We have had our first lamb of the season today.  I had a slight miscalculation with my dates.  I had figured the first one to be due in about 10 days.  My husband was looking out the kitchen window this morning to see a little lamb standing in the barnyard.  He called me at work, with a slight tone of panic in his voice.  He scurried outside to gather up the new mother and her lamb into a corner pen in the barn.  Numerous telephone calls to me over a short period of time to walk him through the experience.
He insisted that I come home early from work, by the time I came home he had everything well in hand.
After revising the due dates, I've informed him that approximately next Wednesday or Thursday he will get to experience this again, as we have two that will be due.

The Sock!

This is the sock I've been working on for several weeks. I haven't made a complete sock before, only a large slipper on large needles which was then felted about two years ago.  Then of course one that I worked passed turning the heel only to see that it was going to be too small and tight.
So when I began this one I cast on 100 stitches and pretty much had to adapt the whole pattern, the ribbing turned out great, the foot is a little to big, but I am one of those people who just can't follow the directions, I am always adapting things.  I am going to make a match to this one.
I used Regia stretch sock yarn with size two needles.  I bought this yarn at a craft show, but I believe you can also find it at coatsandclark.com
As soon as I finish this second sock I am going to begin another pair, I will revise them also.  Trying with a cast on of 80 stitches, all the while making notes for future reference in my sock making experience. 
Making a pair of socks is really pretty neat when you think about it, it's just finding the perfect pattern for you and the type of yarn you are using.  My sock making skills need improved, but I am sure with practice this will happen.

On another note, I am waiting in anticipation of seeing my sheep shearing date to be scheduled with my shearer.  Can't wait to get those girls sheared I need wool to work with for my projects.
As soon as I know my shearing date I will let you know, this is a very interesting event. 

Special Olympic Scarfs

A friend asked if I would make a couple of scarves for Special Olympics.  Every year they try to get enough scarves made so every participant and coach gets a scarf.  Each year they pick two colors that all the scarves are to be made of.  I didn't keep the labels of the yarn, it was Red Heart yarn, Blue & Teague, I believe.
I thought they came out pretty good.  I chose to crochet them since I can get that done so much faster than knitting.  They have a certain width and length requirement, but other than that you can do whatever you want.  The striped scarf I just made up as I went carrying both strands along trying to make a long striped look.
The curved or wavy one was a design I took from an afghan design, it came out pretty neat too.
I am working on some socks (or a sock) right now, hopefully I will post a pic. this next week!

Scarf

This scarf was a Christmas gift that my son wanted to give to a girl - friend.
Of course he asked me two weeks before Christmas if I could make it.
I finished it Christmas Eve.
50 /50 blend of Black Shetland Wool & Grey Alpaca Fiber

Fingerless Gloves / Mitts Pattern

Size US 5 Straight Needles
2 ply yarn

Cast on 36 stitches (leaving about a 10 inch tail for whip stitching)
Place a marker on right side.  (right side will be the knit side)

Knit 2, Purl 2 for 18 rows to make ribbing.(or desired length)

Begin to knit across on right side
Purl on wrong side.

Repeat this for 28 rows or desired length of fingers (count stitches on right side)


I did not find the need to increase (for finger spread)  using this pattern.

Bind off on the purl row to make a nice flat end.

Whip stitch the edges together leaving a space for your thumbs.
