#192 & chicks

 This black ewe #192 is out of Tessa, (who recently delivered lambs)

from a previous year, I have not registered her yet.  She is a daughter of 

Ram #26, Gwenever Duroy.

 Well, she had delivered this sweet little ewe lamb early this morning.

So we have a real Easter Lamb.

She was bred to a polled black ram lamb that we brought in 

last fall.  Planning to keep this ewe, she will be used in helping

to bring out more spotting in the flock.  As you can see she

has a white spot on her side and a couple on her under belly,

along with white socks and tail.

Most of our lambing has finished, we will have a few in May that 

are Dave L.'s ewes that were bred to Barqs, an older polled gulmoget ram 

that we have here, he is a gentle ram and getting older so we put a few

ewes to him.

 I've finally taken some pics. of the Chicks, my  how they grow soo fast.

I picked up the day old peeps on March 4th from Meyer Hatchery

I ordered three Austra Whites, which are a cross from the black Australop

and a white leghorn and a got the "meal maker" that they offer.

Which is a free bird, similar to what you order that they give you for free.

The idea is that you donate the meat or eggs from the extra bird to 

someone in need.

I think we ended up with a White Rock, in the pic. above she is the 

left front bird.

 At two weeks old the above bird had already developed a comb and 

the wattles developed about week three.  Immediately I thought it was 

a rooster, but a friend says that it may have just taken after the 

white leghorn breed more than the black australop.

I certainly hope so...I don't want a rooster.

I guess we'll find out in a couple of months.
