#60 Zoe

Zoe is a first time Mom and she delivered this cute little ewe.
When I went to the barn at 6am she was all dried off
and had already nursed.
Such a good Mom!

Had to share a close up of her getting a nap.
Zoe is a GrandLuxe daughter, bred to Duroy, a white ram.
Not certain of her color pattern, her underbelly is the same as
her body color.
Hoping that our other crossbred ewe delivers today.  She is acting like she might.

Andrea #61

Andrea, first time Mom delivered this gorgeous little white ewe lamb today while I was at work.  She did a great job all by herself.  When I walked into the barn late this afternoon she was lying down with this little girl all nestled up against her.
Andrea was bred to Axel.  This little ewe has a very crimpy fleece, just like her Dad.
She will be a keeper.

2016 Lambing season begins

This ewe is one of my two crossbreds, she is a Rideau Arcott/Shetland ewe.  This is her second time having lambs.  This year she delivered two nice ewe lambs.  She was bred to our now sold ram Axel.  I was really hoping for a ram lamb to replace the current crossbred ram that  I use.
I have one more chance for this to happen when the other crossbred ewe delivers.
I have an approximate delivery date of April 5th for her.
Everyone is getting closer to being due, hopefully this week we will have more lambs on the ground.

Happy Easter!!

Shearing Day, 2016

We were blessed with wonderful weather on our Shearing Day.  Sardis of  www.shearingalpaca.com in the foreground shearing one of my Shetlands that were coated and Quentin in the background working on one of my two crossbred ewes.
These young men are just great!  I've had them or other members of their team shear my sheep since 2009 and they are always so careful and accommodating with us and our sheep.
This year I had two of the shetlands that we were able to roo. Above pic. shows Sartis roo-ing this ewe as she waits patiently.  I think she actually liked getting the wool off.
Once all shearing was done.  I turned the ewes out to munch on some hay and you could just tell that they were glad to have their fleeces off.  We are having much warmer weather than normal and they are really enjoying it.
Now we are able to better see those baby bumps and will watch them grow rapidly these next few weeks.  The first calculated due dates that I witnessed should be April 5th.....but you never know
we'll just have to keep watching.

Axel goes to a new home today. ...and...

Axel in the forefront in above photo.  What a sweet ram.  He has been picked to go to a new home today.  I am sure he will be a nice addition to his new flock.
Back left is Luxor, superfine fleeced ram, grey Katamoget scurred ram he is available.
Back right is Barqs, moorit based gulmoget polled ram another nice ram that is available.
Both Luxor and Barqs are owned by Dave Lewis of Wee Middlebranch Farm.
Above are some of the little guys I've held back from 2015 lambing.  Four are mine and the cute little AG grey polled ram looking at the camera is Dave Lewis' of Wee Middlebranch Farm
These two are the ram lambs are the camera hogs.  Both very fine fleeced and potential rams.
Above, grey Katmoget polled ram, very nice dispositioned ram...he is available if anyone might be looking for an awesome ram.
Some of my girls fleeces are slipping...rooing...coming loose.  This weather has them confused.
Warm one week and chilly the next.
We will be shearing in 5 weeks on March 11, 2016.
Anyone who might want a farm fresh fleece contact me to make arrangements to make your pick.

See you soon.

Post Festivals

This is one of ours set ups from one of the festival/events that we have attended.  The scurrying begins the end of August and doesn't end until mid October.  It is enjoyable to meet and talk with everyone.  Now that it is over, we can take a deep breathe and assess all that needs done.
Like cleaning out the barn, setting up the breeding groups (see new pics.on ewe & ram pages), deciding who is for sale...since you can't keep everybody:)
Also as I look at what I have in inventory....Oh, I don't have any!  It's been a good year with sales of handmade hats and such that I need to get busy spinning so I can replenish my goods.
